# Microsoft Office 2010 Print Jobs Are Very Large

### **Environment**

- Microsoft Office 2010
- Pharos Systems Blueprint Enterprise (all versions)
- Pharos Systems Uniprint Suite (all versions)

### **Symptoms**

- Server's hard disk fills up
- Excessively large print/spool files on server hard drive
- Jobs take a long time to print
- Can't release job to printer

---

### **Cause**

The print spool function in Office 2010 is different from previous versions. Unpatched Office 2010 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher) contain a bug where image files within the application are sent to Windows Spooler in pieces, which results in an excessively large print file that must be spooled.

### **Resolution**

To resolve the problem, you may either:

- Download (or use Windows Update) Service Pack 1 or better for Microsoft Office 2010
- Download Microsoft KB 2345342 ([http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2345342](http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2345342))

There is no need to adjust any Pharos software operation.
