Overview

Mac Print Scout for Pharos Cloud uses a notarized macOS installer and a driverless print workflow designed for current Pharos Cloud environments.

This article explains what changed with the notarized Mac Print Scout, what to expect during installation, and the current behavior that matters most for customers using Secure Release on macOS.

Before you start

Before installing or upgrading Mac Print Scout, confirm the following:

  • You are using the current Mac Print Scout package provided for your Pharos Cloud environment.

  • Your organization allows apps from the App Store and identified developers, or your administrator is prepared to authorize the package in macOS Privacy & Security if prompted.

  • Your printers support IPP or IPPS if you are using the Mac secure queue.

  • You review the current Mac Print Scout Overview and current known limitations for the latest platform details.

Steps

  1. Download the current Mac Print Scout installer from your Pharos Cloud setup or deployment source.

  2. Install the package on the Mac workstation.

  3. Complete the normal Pharos Cloud registration or setup flow for the user or device.

  4. Verify that the secure queue is created successfully.

  5. Submit a test print job and confirm the job appears in the user’s Pharos queue.

  6. Release the job from a supported printer.

Validation

Use the following checks to confirm a successful installation:

  • The Mac Print Scout installs without malware or unsigned-application warnings in a standard supported configuration.

  • The secure queue is present after installation.

  • A submitted print job reaches the user’s queue successfully.

  • The job can be released at the printer.

  • If your site uses Local Connector, confirm the target printer supports IPP printing.

Notes

  • Mac Print Scout uses Apple-compatible notarized installation behavior and the current Mac secure queue uses a driverless IPP or IPPS style workflow.

  • Earlier Mac Print Scout guidance that focused on the HP UPD PCL 5 driver is no longer sufficient for current environments.

  • Current Mac Print Scout documentation should be used for the latest supported macOS versions and current behavior.

  • Policy Print is not supported on macOS.

  • Some advanced finishing behavior on macOS remains more limited than on Windows, especially when jobs are submitted through the IPP Secure queue.

  • If a customer sees an Apple notice related to Intel-based apps or Rosetta on newer macOS releases, that is a forward-looking Apple notice, not an immediate Mac Print Scout failure. Users can continue normal use unless a separate installation or printing problem is present.

  • If macOS blocks the installer, first verify the package source and current Gatekeeper settings, then review Privacy & Security options on the Mac before assuming the package is not notarized.
