On newer HP Printers (most models that use an EIO card, and a few of the newest MIO cards) you can actually print to an embedded binary PostScript interpreter. When you create an LPR port, rather than using a printer name of RAW, use a printer name of BINPS. This will allow the printer to interpret the binary correctly. There are a couple of "gotchas" though. First, ALL jobs printed using that port must use PostScript. This means that if you intend to share the same printer with PCs, you have to use a PostScript driver on those as well. This is usually acceptable in most cases. The other problem is that we do not always page count binary correctly, so there is a chance of a few page count errors cropping up. Again, this is usually acceptable to the customer when the alternative is page after page of garbage printing out.
