Article summary

The current supported versions of Sentry SR25 firmware are:

  • 1.0.1.12176 when requiring BPDU Guard (see https://bit.ly/2TqklnU )

  • 1.0.1.12202 when using Spanning Tree Protocol without BPDU Guard

If your Sentry SR25 unit has firmware below either of these versions for the intented network configuration, then it is advised to update the firmware to take advantage of important updates.

Updating the Firmware in Sentry Base

The Sentry Base application server is used by Sentry SR25 for configuration, as a conduit into both Blueprint and Uniprint, and as a repository of firmware for automatic upgrades. Before you begin, download the correct SR25 firmware version on Pharos Community and unzip it on the server hosting Sentry Base.

  1. Launch the Sentry Base Administrator ( https://<servername>:9072 ) and log in.

  2. Click the SR25 Firmware tab.

  3. Click the Upload Firmware button (highlighted in green below).

  4. Click the  button and navigate to the “.bin” file located within the SmartHub folder. Open it.

  5. Ensure the Default Firmware option is checked.

  6. Click the  button to finish the operation. The UI will update to show the firmware version stored.

At this point, as Sentry SR25 units check in, they will be updated to the firmware version.

NOTE: If the Sentry SR25 checking in has firmware greater than that stored for upgrade, it will not accept the stored version. If you need to downgrade a Sentry SR25, please follow the directions below.

Downgrading Firmware

Downgrading firmware can be used to achieve several goals, including:

  • Normalization of firmware in the organization

  • Troubleshooting

  • Changing configurations (for example, enabling or disabling BPDU Guard)

Downgrading cannot occur via Sentry Base. Instead, it has to be performed per device by modifying the Sentry SR25 “.zip” file downloaded from the Sentry Base Administrator. NOTE: This process can also be used to manually update firmware as well.

Preparing the Sentry SR25 Zip File

  1. Launch the Sentry Base Administrator ( https://<servername>:9072 ) and log in.

  2. Click the SR25 Firmware tab.

  3. Click the  button. This will download a “SR25.zip” file to the hard disk, typically to the logged-in user’s “Downloads” folder.

  4. Double-click “SR25.zip” and then open the underlying sr25 folder.

  5. Locate the “.bin” file and delete it.

  6. Copy over the desired-version “.bin” file; for example, the 1.0.1-revision-12176.bin file. The file structure will look similar to the one below:

  7. Close the window. This updates the “.zip” file.

At this point, the “.zip” file can be copied to a USB thumb drive and used to “flash” the Sentry SR25 hardware.
