TERM | DEFINITION |
ALTBOOT | Xerox terminology for Factory Reset. |
API | Application Programming Interface: a source-code specification defining how software systems interface with each other. |
Authentication/Logon Gateway | Pharos Logon and Authentication Gateways allow users to log on to Pharos applications using authentication details supplied by third-party authentication system. |
Authentication Method | Defines how the user's credentials are validated, e.g. against Active Directory or a local user account. |
Beacon/Pharos Cloud | Beacon is the old name of Pharos Cloud, which is our multi-vendor print management platform in the cloud that gives customers a complete view of their print environment, on demand. Beacon comprises Secure Print, Fleet Manager and Print Analytics, integrated but separately licensed products. |
Blueprint Administrator | The application used for configuring, maintaining, and viewing the print tracking and data collection process. This program is installed on the Analyst and all Collectors. This is also the term used to identify the individual who maintains the Blueprint installation. |
Blueprint Analyst | The Analyst server is the repository of all data collected by the Blueprint system and is the single point from which all system-wide configuration settings are made. |
Blueprint Collector | A Collector server collects print job data from the Print Scouts and forwards them to the Analyst. In a SRH environment, it detects when a print job is bound for a secure device and stores the job at rest until the job owner authenticates and releases the document(s). |
Data Feeds | Third-party data sets that are imported into the Analyst tool and consolidated with print transactions from the Print Scout and Collector. Examples include HR and budget center information. |
Data Loss Prevention | It is a set of processes, procedures, and tools designed to prevent the loss, misuse, or unauthorized access of sensitive information. Data is classified using DLP software solutions to determine if it is regulated, confidential or critical to business. |
Departmental Chargeback | Uniprint allows customers to track printing costs by department or cost centers, which makes it easier to manage the accounting of printing charges across the organization. |
DDU (Device Discovery Utility) | The Device Scout Discovery Utility is an application installed with the Device Scout that allows you to perform any of the following tasks: |
EDI (External Device Interface) | The Pharos EDI is a small service that functions as an intermediary between the Pharos system and third-party devices and applications. It received information requests from third-party software, relays them to Pharos servers, and provides responses using industry standard protocols. The Pharos EDI interfaces with the Pharos Print Server and the Pharos SignUp Server, allowing it to be used with all products in the Pharos suite. |
Fleet | The full portfolio of printers at a customer location. |
IIS | Internet Information Server: a web server application and set of feature extension modules created by Microsoft for use with MS Windows. Also referred to as Microsoft Information Services. |
iMFP (Integrated Multi-Functional Printers) | Pharos software that's installed directly on multi-function devices to enable Secure Release Here functionality. The iMFP software integrates with the device's user interface. Generally used with Uniprint of Off the Glass. |
Informed Print | Notifies Uniprint users of the cost of their print job prior to output and allows them to cancel the print request, if desired. Also notifies the user of potential ways to reduce costs. |
Log Setter | Pharos Log Setter utility is a component of Uniprint that helps with configuring the logging details, levels and location of the logs that saved. |
LMS (Library Management Service/System) | A Library Management Service/System enabled the librarians to track the status of books along with subscriptions and a complete user database. |
MFD (Multi-function Device) | The standard industry term for any device that has several office functions, including printing, copying and scanning. |
MFP (Multi-Functional Printer) | Printers that can perform the function of multiple device types and typically includes printing, copying, scanning, fax, and email. |
MobilePrint | Enables users to print from a mobile device to a Pharos-managed printer or MFD. Secure Release Here® must be installed. This is licensed separately from Uniprint and Blueprint. |
MPS (Managed Print Services) | Managed Print Services is a business model where a customer outsources the management of their fleet of printers and often pays a ‘click charge’ for each output that pays for devices, consumables, and service. |
MSI (Microsoft Software Installer) | It is a Windows Installer format that uses Microsoft’s Windows Installer service to configure installer packages. |
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) | Original Equipment Manufacturer, generally refers to the company that makes a product that another company brands and sells as their own. |
Off-The-Glass® | Part of the Pharos Uniprint® Solution, this allows copy activity to be tracked and charged. This is licensed separately. |
Omega PS200 | A touchscreen device that attaches to printers/MFDs that allows users to release their print and copy jobs. |
Pay-for-print | An industry term for a print management solution that charges individuals for their printing at the time of the transaction. This is typical in higher education institutions; Uniprint is our pay-for-print solution. |
Packages | A package contains all the information and files that the OS installer requires to install or uninstall an application or component and to run the setup user interface. |
Pharos Billing Gateway | The billing gateway allows users to access the funds in their billing service account to pay for their printing and copying activities, or reservations within the Pharos environment. |
Pharos Customer Service Kiosk | Hardware used to add funds to online accounts in the Pharos database and/or create guest accounts with a pin. Users can also print receipts of their transaction(s). |
Policy Print | A feature of Blueprint Enterprise that allows organizations to enforce printing policies at the workstation level. When users print jobs that do not comply with one or more policies, a customizable message appears, usually informing them about the policy and suggesting more cost-effective alternatives. |
Popup Client | The Popup Client is a small application that is activated every time a user prints a document on client PCs where is is installed. It displays the questions sent from the Popup Service, collects the answers and sends them on to the rest of the printing system along with the print job. |
Preton Coordinator | The server component of the Preton application that we call Toner Savings. For customers who license our Toner Savings application, the Preton Coordinator is installed on Blueprint Collector servers. |
Preton Saver Client | This is the client component of the Preton application (Toner Savings). |
Print and Copy Accounting | An industry term for the tracking and accounting of print and copy activity in an organization. |
Print Center/Pharos Print Center (PPC) | Print Center provides a web-based interface for users to view and manage their print queue, view their printing history, and in a Uniprint environment, add funds to an account. Print Center integrates with Blueprint, MobilePrint, and Uniprint. |
Print Scout | The Print Scout is installed on all workstations and/or Windows print servers to track jobs as they are submitted by users. The Print Scout also enables print policy enforcement at the workstation level and allows users to manage their print queue from the desktop. |
Pull Print | It’s a program that enables users to print to a single print queue and collect their print job from any device. |
Secure Release Here® | An optional feature of Uniprint® and Pharos Blueprint® that creates a secure pull printing environment. Print jobs are encrypted and held at rest in a virtual queue and released when the print job owner authenticates at the device and releases the document. This is licensed separately from Blueprint Enterprise. |
Sentry | Sentry products secure print devices in a Secure Release Here environment. Sentry software requires SR25, SE25, SE50, PS200 to operate. |
SE35 | Sentry SE35 is embedded in multi-function devices, similar to our iMFP products. |
SE50 | Next-Generation embedded platform for supported MFP models across different manufacturers. Sentry SE50 provides a common interface at the MFP for Pharos Cloud, Blueprint Enterprise, and Uniprint, with a similar securing process for administrators. |
SR25 | The Sentry SR25 is a small devices that attaches to single-function printers. |
SignUp® | A computer reservation system that automates the administrative and enforcement roles required for public access computers. Users specify the time on an electronic calendar they want to use the workstation. This is licensed separately. |
Site Monitor | A component of Blueprint Enterprise that collects networked device data (such as serial number, make/model, and meter reads). |
Site Service | The iMFP Site Service is a windows service running within the customer environment which communicates to Beacon (in the cloud) and provides the necessary functionality needed to Secure iMFPs remotely and to enable the iMFPs to properly perform authorization and job tracking functions. |
SLA | Service-level Agreement: the part of a service contract that describes the legal entitlements of a service contract. |
SNMP | Simple Network Management Protocol: an internet standard protocol for managing devices on an IP network including printers. |
SSO (Single Sign-On) | Passing credentials from one system to another so users don’t have to sign on multiple times when moving between systems. |
Terminal / Network Terminal | This is a term commonly used to describe either hardware (Sentry or Omega) or software (Sentry or iMFP) to enable secure pull print and/or pay-for-print functionality. |
Third-party Charging | A component of the Uniprint® Suite and Off-The-Glass® that allows customers to assign the cost of print and copy jobs to a particular department, budget center, grant number, etc. This requires a network terminal that supports cost center billing. |
Toner Savings (Preton) | A component of Blueprint Enterprise that reduces the amount of toner used to print a document. This is installed and licensed separately. The Toner Savings application is licensed from Preton. |
