Article summary

Touchless QR Code Release is simple and fast: users simply walk up to a printer and use the Pharos Print app (iOS and Android) to scan a QR code affixed to the printer. Users can manage the print jobs in their queue and confirm or change job details right from their mobile device—without ever making contact with the printer interface.

The QR code scanner can be found on the upper right-hand side of the mobile app. If the Pharos Print App is not installed, users can scan a QR Code from their camera app, this will launch the Pharos Print Center via a web browser. After logging in, the user can release jobs in the same manner as with the Pharos Print App.

The QR Codes section in the Secure tab allows site administrators to generate and download QR codes to attach to printers.

Mobile Applications Settings

Enable QR Code Scanner button - When enabled, the QR Code Scanner button will be displayed on the Pharos Print mobile app. You can find the button on the top right-hand corner of the screen. Tap this button to scan the QR code attached to the printer.

  • Make & Model

Page Size

Select the page size of the QR Code label. Your options are A4 or Letter.

In previous versions, QR Codes for Mobile Release were rendered in A4 only. Starting with Blueprint 5.4, you can now download QR codes in Letter.

Note: When printing labels, we recommend using Avery 8163 for Letter and Avery 3425 for A4. For best results, print with ‘Actual Size’.

Printers

Select the printers to create QR Code labels for. There are two options:

  • All - To create a QR code for every printer, simply select All in the Printers section of the QR Codes tab. Clicking the Download button generates a PDF of all printers associated with “SE50 Terminal Type” and “QR Release Terminal Type” in the Blueprint database.

  • Manual Selection - To manually select printers to create QR codes for, select Manual Selection. When the Continue to Download button is pressed, a dialog box opens allowing admins to manually select printers (associated with “SE50 Terminal Type” and “QR Release Terminal Type”) that will appear on the QR code labels.

Notes:

  • If the “Advanced Mode” slider on the bottom left of this dialog is enabled, it is possible to upload a text file listing the printers to create QR codes for.

  • When specifying a manual list of devices for QR Code labels, the Terminal Name is used when searching. The return includes the Device Name unless the Device Description is populated for the device. Since the Description is not protected from duplicates, ensure that any Device Descriptions, if present, are unique to prevent ambiguous search results.

  1. Print the QR code labels.

  2. Attach the QR code labels to the appropriate printers based on the labels.

Note

The system generates QR Codes for printers associated with QR Release or SE50 terminal type in the Blueprint database. Blueprint does not generate QR codes for printers with Generic terminal type.
