Secure Release
Pharos Cloud Secure Release provides three alternatives for the Pharos Secure Printer print queue that is created during installation of the Pharos Cloud Print Scout:
- Pharos Secure Printer print queue utilizing the Pharos IPP Secure Print Driver. This is the default installation condition for Pharos Cloud Print Scout version 7.32.4.100 and newer.
- Pharos Secure Printer print queue utilizing an HP Universal Print Driver:
- This is the default installation condition for Pharos Cloud Print Scout versions prior to 7.32.4.100.
- This is an optional installation condition for Pharos Cloud Print Scout version 7.32.4.100 and newer.
- Pharos Secure Printer print queue utilizing a custom print driver package. This process allows for the use of virtually any printer manufacturers’ Type 3 print driver.
Note: The default secure printer queue name is customizable. It is possible that the actual print queue name will vary from the samples provided herein.
How do I view the print driver utilized by the Pharos Secure Printer print queue? (Method 1)
From the Start Menu, launch the Settings application. Navigate to Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select the “Pharos Secure Printer” print queue. (The actual name may vary if it has been customized.) Click the Printer Properties button to display the printer properties.
The Pharos Secure Printer print queue’s print driver will be displayed within the general tab.
How do I view the print driver utilized by the Pharos Secure Printer print queue? (Method 2)
On the client workstation, launch the Print Management (printmanagement.msc) application. Expand the tree in the left side menu to locate the printers that are present on the local print server. View the Driver Name and Driver Version used by the Pharos Secure Printer.
I’ve determined that the Pharos Secure Printer utilizes the Pharos IPP Secure Print Driver:
The Pharos IPP Secure Print Driver is not subject to the vulnerability disclosed in HP’s Universal Print Driver - No further action is required.
I’ve determined that the Pharos Secure Printer does not utilize the HP Universal Print Driver:
Your Print Scouts have been deployed with a custom driver package - No further action is required.
I’ve determined that the Pharos Secure Printer utilizes an HP Universal Print Driver with a version lower than 7.3.0.25919:
Pharos will be publishing an updated version of the Pharos Cloud Print Scout (7.37.7.100) that will include an updated HP Universal Print Driver (7.3.0.25919). Deploy the updated Pharos Cloud Print Scout to all client workstations impacted by the HP Universal Print Driver vulnerability.
Pharos Cloud Direct Print
Pharos Cloud Direct Print utilizes the Pharos IPP Secure Print Driver as the default driver selection for Pharos-managed direct print queues. Alternate manufacturer drivers are selectively available for use with Pharos-managed direct print queues.
How can I see what print drivers are in use within Pharos Cloud Direct Print?
