Whenever a user tries to run Pharos Remote, they get the error:
"Cannot start Pharos Remote. Socket operation on non-socket."
This error can occur when the application believes the service file is missing.
Run FileMon to make sure you are receiving the same error message.
Example of Error:
PRemote.exe:1724 OPEN C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.MASSEY\%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\services PATH NOT FOUND Options: Open Access: All
Copy the services file to where the program was looking for it. The location it was looking for the file was related to where the shortcut was being run from, i.e. if the shortcut is on the desktop, it looks in:
C:\Documents and Settings\labadmin\desktop\%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\services
If in c:\test:
C:\test\%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\services
