Article summary

Environment

  • Pharos Blueprint v5.0.7078

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

  • A report cannot be generated for current dates.

  • The latest Publication entries show a Result of 'Fail.'

  • ERROR: "An error occurred while publishing data. Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."

Changes

  • There have been no changes to the Blueprint Analyst server.

Cause

The publications are failing due to a memory utilization issue by the Pharos Taskmaster service. The error "An exception occurred: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown." is observed to be a problem in the 5.0.7078 release of Pharos Blueprint (version can be checked by going to the Help > About option in Blueprint Administrator) when the source data is quite large.

Resolution

Update Pharos Blueprint 5.0.7078 to 5.0.7085 by applying Service Pack 2 for Blueprint 5.0.

  1. Downloaded Service Pack 2 from http://www.pharos.com/support/downloads/blueprint/BP-50/5.0-ServicePack2.zip.

  2. Unzip the contents onto the Blueprint Analyst hard disk.

  3. Stop all Pharos Systems services on the server hosting Blueprint Analyst.

  4. Launch an administrative command prompt and then navigate to the directory where the extracted service pack files are stored.

  5. Type patcher.exe and press ENTER on the keyboard.

  6. When the update has finished, launch the Blueprint Server Configuration utility (Start > All Programs > Pharos Blueprint Enterprise > Tools).

  7. Click File > Reapply Settings and let the process commence. It will end with a test of the Pharos Blueprint system.

Please note that if you have both Blueprint Analyst and one or more Blueprint Collector servers, the service pack will need to be applied across all servers, as a communications hardening feature was also implemented in this release. Upgrade the Analyst first, followed by Collectors. Use the same set of steps provided above for Collectors.

The Service Pack also provides an updated Pharos Blueprint Tracker for Windows workstations and print servers. While not crucial that your version 5.0.7078 Trackers be upgraded as well (to 5.0.7087), it is highly recommended.
