How does the authentication/login component of the Pharos Canon MEAP application work?
Pharos has implemented a Login Service for Canon devices. This replaces the standard Canon supplied login services and allows the Pharos application to control authentication. When the user walks up to an iMFP enabled device they are prevented from performing any functions at the device until they have been authenticated.
The user's identification is collected at the iMFP. This can either be typed on the membrane keypad or collected from an optional card reader attached to the USB host port of the Canon device. If required the user can additionally be challenged for a password for secure access. Once the credentials are collected the iMFP communicates them to the Uniprint or Blueprint server backend. If the user credentials are valid the user is granted access to the device.
Workflow
Use Case 1: Card Based Authentication
User swipes card in reader connected to the Canon device
User account information is retrieved
User is challenged for password (if required)
User account information is shown (if configured)
User is granted access to all applications available on the device
Use Case 2: Soft Keyboard Authentication
User presses the button on the touch screen
Membrane keyboard is presented and user name is entered
User account information is retrieved
User is challenged for password (if required)
User account information is shown (if configured)
User is granted access to all applications available on the device
Use Case 3: Card Based Authentication with Cost Centers
User swipes card in reader connected to the Canon device
User account information is retrieved
User is challenged for password (if required)
User's configured cost centers are displayed
User selects the desired cost center (or charges to personal account)
User is granted access to all applications available on the device
