What's New in This Release

Support for C5185 model

This release adds support for the iR C5185 model.

Support for network/power failures

The system now handles the case where the network connection to a copier is lost or power is lost during a copy job. Once the system is brought back to regular working conditions all jobs that occurred without access to the server are transacted. The new Cable Status Socket Timeout and Cable Status Retry Timeout properties on the MFD tab in Pharos Administrator are used determine when network connectivity has been lost, how long the iMFP solution will wait before attempting to re-establish communications.

Demo mode

This release adds the ability to run the iMFP solution in demo mode. In demo mode, the solution does not need to be connected to a Print Server, and can be used to show the authentication, print release and copying functions in a demonstration envirnoment. Enable demo mode from the Pharos Systems Configuration Settings web page hosted on the MFP.

Show User Balance After Logon property

The release adds a new property to the Logon tab in Pharos Administrator. The Show User Balance After Logon property determines whether or not a screen showing the user's balance is displayed immediately after they log on.

Denying access to users with insufficient funds

The release adds a new property to the Logon tab in Pharos Administrator. The Deny when insufficent funds in personal account property allows to you deny access to users who are billed in Advance, and whose personal funds are not sufficient to cover the cost of a copy job. This prevents users from logging on and switching to the Native Copy interface to get free copies.

Copy contrast control added

The user can now control copy contrast from the copying screen of the Pharos application.

Default paper size for scan

Previously if the size of a scanned document was non-standard it would copy on the largest size paper available. The system now displays the paper select dialog box and asks the user to select the paper to use. The default paper size can also be configured in Pharos Administrator on the Copier tab.

Bug fixes

This firmware release includes fixes for the following issues:

When using the hard keys to enter a custom copy ratio setting the number of copies would be set to the number entered.
At the very end of a Pharos copy job, pressing the start key repeatedly could cause a malfunction.
Users could not log off immediately after starting a copy job.
During a long copy job, if the auto clear timer expired the user would be logged off.
The socket connection timeout has been increased substantially to provide more fault tolerance for slow or noisy networks.
There was a period of time after the main copy UI was displayed but before the green button for copy was lit that a logout was invalid. The logout button is now disabled during this time period.

Install Notes

Apply ini_schemas_canonIMFP.sql script

Run the ini_schemas_canonIMFP.sql script supplied in the Database directory of this firmware release against the Pharos Database before upgrading firmware. Running this script ensures that all new properties featured in this firmware release will be available in Pharos Administrator. If you are using SQL Server, run this script against the 'pharos' database using SQL Query Analyzer. If your site uses MSDE, run the script by entering the following from a command prompt, where [password] is your SQL administrator password:

osql -U sa -P [password] -d pharos -i ini_schemas_canonIMFP.sql

If you are integrating with Pharos Blueprint Enterprise, you must update the Canon iMFP configuration file with the details of the Canon iMFP configuration schema. Copy the XML from the file ini_schemas_canonIMFP.sql into the file Canon iMFP.terminal.config, available in the Blueprint\bin directory of the Analyst server.

It is always a good idea to back up the Pharos Database before applying changes.

Insert a Printer and a Network Terminal

Pharos Uniprint contains records for the printers and copiers that it manages, and for the terminals that control them. Since the Canon MFP is both an output device and a terminal, records for it must be created at two places in Pharos Administrator:

A Network Terminal record must be created for the MFP at Pharos Stations > Network Terminals.
An MFD record must be created at Printing > Print Services > [selected Print Service] > Printers or Output Devices > Pharos Managed Copiers.
Ensure that the MFD is listed under the Related Printers property for the Network Terminal - if this association is not made, users will receive an error when attempting to release print jobs.

If you are using the Canon MFP with Pharos Blueprint, ensure that the MFP is listed on the Devices screen in Blueprint Administrator, then use the Create Associated Terminal button to create a terminal record for it.

SSL required when integrating with Pharos Blueprint

When using the Canon iMFP solution with Pharos Blueprint Enterprise, the Canon must be configured to use SSL. Select "If Available" under Encryption Options on the Pharos Systems Configuration Settings web page. (If the selection is set to "Always," the connection will fail with a message saying the network is unavailable.)

Additionally, Blueprint servers must be configured to use SSL. In addition to the usual setup steps (see Blueprint documentation for details), the web.config file must be edited to complete the configuration.
