Question:
How do I turn on logging for Omega terminals?
Answer:
Logging can be enabled at the Terminal by changing the settings outlined in the Omega Installation and configuration guide. Logging is by default written to an internal log file on the device and only contains 1000KB of data by default.
The Omega Terminal can also send data through the standard syslog protocol. Logging is activated from the configuration menu at the Omega SmartPAD or via the administrative web page of the device.
For syslog logging Pharos Systems recommends using a syslog server running on a standard PC to collect logs via the network. A variety of syslog servers are freely available on the Internet. To enable logging for an Omega device:
Ensure that your Syslog Daemon is installed somewhere and running.
Open the configuration menu at the Omega SmartPAD.
Go to the Syslog screen.
Enter the host name or IP address of the PC running your Syslog Daemon for the "Syslog Server Address" property.
Apply changes and exit to the main menu, then go to the Admin > Logging screen.
Set the level of logging detail with the GUI Levels, SOAP Levels and Station Levels properties.
Apply changes and close the configuration menu.
Omega Log messages should now appear in your syslogger as they are received.
