Article summary

Problem:

After installing the Pharos iMFP solution to a device and I swipe a card I receive one of the following errors.

"IP Biller: unknown return"

"IP Biller: Invalid card type"

Information:

This error occurs on the iMFP and is a result of the data from the card swipe not matching a configured "Card Type" in the External Billing Gateway" (e.g. Blackboard, CBORD, Diebold etc..) that is being used and what is expected by the External Billing Gaterway..

Note: If the iMFP units were previously working then it may be a bad card reader and you should look at replacing it or swapping it with another working unit.

One way to test what is being swipe is to plug the card reader device into a PC, open Notepad.exe and swipe the card to see what value is being returned by the reader.

Logon Scripts and Billing Scripts in Uniprint can also impact how the data is parsed if you are using one.

*If you continue to receive this error then you may also need to add an additional card type in the online Gateway configuration.
