How to enable color and B&W charging using Color Attributes and a single Spool Queue.

Some important initial information:

  1. The color logic detects whether there is ANY color in a print job.

  2. All printers which use the job cost method must be color devices. If you apply this job cost method to a B&W printer, there may be spurious results.

  3. The contents of the spool file depend on the printer driver and application being used. Therefore this solution may not work for all printer drivers and applications.

To set up color support the following things need to be done:

  1. Get the latest version of the page counter.

  2. Apply the color registry key:

    SOFTWARE\Pharos\Page Counter

    DWORD Value: Color Check

    Meaning:

    1 = Complete color checking

  3. Set up a job cost method with a negative discount for color, e.g. if B&W costs 10c, and you want color to cost 50c, set up a -400% discount for color.

Once this is set up, color and B&W jobs will be costed accordingly.
